Back on track...

I love it when our school year starts and the girls get back on track with their schedules.  Summer is great, don't get me wrong.  But after a while all the fly by the seat of your pants days kind of get to me.  After a while I wonder what I have gotten accomplished for the day. The girls are great about being able to do things on their own.  But there are limits to that good fortune. By the end of summer I cringe when I hear "there's nothing to do".  You know by this time that options and ideas are running thin and there are only so many times that spur of the moment trips within a 30 mile range holds anyones interest.

So I am glad that the whole structure and regimen of days are back.  There seems to be purpose and meaning for all hours of the day for everyone.  Things just seem to get accomplished.  The girls even chose to be in charge of dinner on Friday nights now.  How awesome is that!  Dang awesome in my book.  They already have September planned out.

The other loved thing about this time of year is the weather changing.  It's cooler now.  I adore the cooler temps!  The a/c only runs very late in the day.  Windows are open early in the morning to let all that wonderful crisp, cool air in.  Heaven!

I seem to have a smidge more time to work on projects.  Don't know how that is.  It just feels like it.  And I'm going with it.  Whatever works for me I say.

Fresh tomatoes from the garden are used to make yummy cheesy tomato toast for breakfast.  So awesome!  One of my faves on cool mornings.  Crunchy toast, ripe tomatoes and melty cheese.  The best!  Not bad for lunch either.

And fresh, warm, gooey oatmeal raisin cookies are the bomb as their smell drifts through the house.  Samples have to be tasted to make sure they are just right.  There may have been 4 or 5 tasted just by me.

This time of year is great.  Things seem to be at peace again.  Things happening like they should.  At least for a bit.  I'm enjoying every bit of it while I can.

  1. I love the smell of cookies baking. I used to get so made when I was a young girl and would bake cookies for the family. They were eaten as soon as they came out of the oven. By the time the last batch came out there might only be two or three left. I never did get to see a full batch of cookies cooling. Now that I think of it -- I STILL don't. ;-) Pretty blanket and I can almost smell the toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches from here. MMMMM!

  3. We all love holidays and the rest it brings but we also benefit from routines, especially kids.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the cooler weather and finding time to do a few extra things for yourself.
    Those tomatoes look delicious.
    Have a fab day.

  4. This is the first year in 22 years that I haven't had someone heading off to school! It's so strange to not be living life around a school schedule.
The tomato sandwiches sound delish. Our entire veggie garden was a bomb this year so I've had to buy tomatoes at the farmer's market and I just harvested my very first zuchinni last Sunday.
Glad to see you're getting lots of cookie taste testing in!
p.s. Still totally smoked in. I'm so over these fires.

  6. I think you're right - school provides that structure to the day that a lot of times means that even more is accomplished. Yay for cooler temps and Yay for these simply amazing dishes and yarny projects. :-)
