Finally finished...

We have been busy baking fools around here this week.
I tried keeping things to a minimum but that's hard to do when you have have few people giving you the puppy eyes for their favorite cookies.
Batches upon batches were made so that there were enough for the neighbors, our mail lady, dear friends and plenty for everyone around here to nibble on from time to time.

The girls were such a big help.  Especially after my stand mixer (no, it wasn't a KitchenAid) decided to start smoking, make a few rather loud popping noises and then just quit.  Thank goodness I had my handy dandy back up hand mixer to finish the last few batches of dough.  I would have had a complete melt down otherwise.

Then there was all the scooping, rolling and decorating to be done.
There is one little person who goes completely over board with the decorating.  You can't even see the shapes that she cut out.
And one who must be as neat as possible so that the cookies look just right.
After three days of mixing and baking all the treats have been given out to their recipients and this is what we have for ourselves.

Chocolate chips (can't do without them)
Jelly stars
Cranberry White Chocolate Oatmeal
Andes Mint Cookies (thanks for sharing Kira)
and the ever popular and well loved
Now that all of the goodies are made and all the gifts are under the tree (I got the last package today and wrapped everything) I am officially finished with all the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas.

For the entire week before Christmas there will only be lounging around and watching Christmas shows until we have had our fill along with a snack or two (maybe more) of cookies and hot chocolate.  I might even throw in some cutting and sewing time with the awesome Christmas quilt fabric that has been so patiently waiting for me.

Here are my favorite Christmas shows to watch.
What's your favorite Christmas show?

  1. You had some happy baking :)
Funny how so many things differ around the world... we do not make any same cookies as yours! For christmas the tradition is gingerbread cookies which we cut with the shapers you use, and we make saffron bunnies. But, this year I made no baking at all as we will not be home over the xmas holidays :)

  2. Wow! Congrats on being all done! You certainly deserve to put your feet up and relax. My favorite Christmas shows are Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph (the original) and the Nutcracker Ballet (best w/Mikhail Barishnakov! -sp?)

  3. I miss cooking with my son. I would go pick up his cousin...she is 9 months older. We would roll out sugar cookies and decorate them. They played and played and had a grand time. Sigh...that was a long time ago!

  4. Where are mine? Oh wait, they're off limits for a while, aren't they? What a terrible time for me to be off sweets. UGH! Our favorite Christmas movie is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Ken and I watch it all by ourselves at least twice every season. I heard him singing songs from it this afternoon while he was in the other room. LOVE it!

Kar, I sincerely wish you the merriest of Christmases EVER. Many hugs and blessings, Bev

  5. WOW, I am thoroughly impressed (and tickled that you tried my recipe!) Those cookies look amazing and I loved seeing the different ways your girls decorate. Kids are so funny with their different personalities. Our favorite Christmas movies are White Christmas, Rudolph, and the Polar Express. Hoping to get them all in this week too. Merry Christmas to you!

  6. Wow, Kar! Your stand mixer reminds me of my smoking coffee pot. lol You have baked some delicious treats there and you deserve to kick back and watch Christmas movies. I don't know if I have a favorite Christmas movie, but lately I've been watching Christmas movies on Hallmark channel over and over again and enjoying them all!

  7. Love it! How fun to see the different cookie decorating personalities come out. We always have to have chocolate chip cookies too. I bet your friends were thrilled to get their cookie plates.
    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  8. Totally jealous here.....A whole week do lounge around and do fun stuff! I've still got to make my rum balls -- a Christmas must, if you ask me. And I still have a bit of shopping to do. I have a cookie decorator who loves sprinkles too. A lot. Your cookie trays look fabulous.

  10. Kar, you and I are so much alike. One difference...I am dreaming of a week next week like you described and you are going to live it. I still haven't even gotten my cards out. I'm blaming it on still feeling strange and out of sorts since my dad died. It will all get done in time :)

  13. Hi Karrrfeee! You have been one busy little bee, huh? I am so jealous that I don't have the rest of the week to just relax! Hmmph! Really, though, I am so laid back about it all. What gets done will get done, and what doesn't...well just doesn't! I don't think Jesus wants us to be all harried and hurried, anyway!!

Praying for a wonderful Merry Christmas for you and yours and a very joyful New Year!

So thankful for you and your friendship!!

Oh and those quilt squares...divine!! Can't wait to see what you do with them!!

Love and big sunny Florida hugs,
    Becky
